Resort Gravity Takes Over

Wednesday, April 26 – Friday, April 28, 2017

Wednesday:  We had to return our rental car by 2pm.  We assumed we would stay around the resort in the morning, hanging out at the pool – returning our car and spending some time in Charlotte Amalie for an early dinner.  When it was time, we headed into town to return our car.  When we picked up the Jeep, we verified we could return off airport at Havensight, and were assured this would be fine, if we had returned by 5pm.  We arrived right around 2pm, and when we walked into the Budget office at Havensight, the woman working the desk responded with “we don’t have anything left.”  My response was simply, “…that’s fine, we’re actually returning.”  After moving the Jeep to the other side of the building (apparently, we parked in the wrong spot – even though we followed the signs) – return was pretty easy.

We walked along the cruise ship dock, snapped a couple of pictures of the ships in port and headed off for some shopping and dining.

With only two ships in port, about half the shops were open…not yet ready to make our booze purchase, and not being in the market for any jewelry, we settled for a late lunch at Fat Turtle and heading to Charlotte Amalie for some walking around and picture taking.

It was a particularly HOT day, with no breeze – after our walk from Havensight to Yacht Haven Grande, we decided to bail out on the sightseeing and head back for an afternoon reprieve in the pool.

We headed to Lanai for a light, late dinner (it was Sushi night) and were back in the room and in bed by 10pm.

Thursday:  We had planned on a day trip to St. John, with our usual hike of the Lind Point Trail and day at Salomon…but resort gravity took over, and we couldn’t find the energy to leave the resort.  We settled in under some palm trees and spent that afternoon reading, floating and sunning.  In between all the relaxation, we did check in at home and did a quick scan of some work email.  What vacation would be complete without at least one Face Time or Skype chat back home?!

After lunch, Marcus headed back to the room for a siesta, while I crashed on the beach…  I may have fallen asleep with a book in hand… Somehow, I managed to sleep through the call back from Leslie, so that Laney could “hang out” with me on the beach after school.  When I woke up from my ocean front nap – I had just enough battery juice left to see that I missed the call…  Back to the room, grabbed Marcus’ phone, sent a text to Leslie explaining the dead phone and an attempt to rapidly charge my phone, since the only other apple device we brought took a brief dip in the ocean earlier that day.

Dinner tonight was quick and easy – Domino’s delivery…on island time.  (Don’t even ask!)

Friday’s Mission:  Finish up all food and drink, do laundry and pack for Saturday’s journey to Tortola.  Friday’s weather was rainy, rainy, rainy.  It wasn’t a wash out day by any means – but it was not conducive to any time on the beach or by the pool.  It was breezy, cloudy, chilly and rainy.  We managed to squeak out a little time by the pool, in between showers, but Friday ended up being mostly – work email, napping, reading, repeat.

Early that evening we headed to the laundromat and tackled a couple loads of laundry.

There was live music at the resort that night, up at the restaurant.  We had another round of dinner at Lanai and enjoyed local entertainment.  It was a beautiful night, warm breeze, Caribbean music and I was finally starting to relax…after a week.
